NOTE: All numbers below are subject to change pending feedback from, and approval by, the Data Hub Advisory Board and the Vice President for Research and Innovation. At present, this should be taken as guidance only.
Each MSU Principal Investigator (defined as a tenure-track faculty member, continuing system Academic Specialist, or an MSU staff member with a research-facing role) will receive five terabytes of free storage space that can be used for data storage and sharing, which will be accessible through Globus as described elsewhere in this documentation. This space will be available to the PI and their designees for a minimum of seven years, with a goal of it being available for as long as the Data Hub remains in existence.
An additional 5 terabytes of free storage space per PI will be available for immutable publicly-available archival purposes (which include Digital Object Identifiers, searchable metadata and Globus links through the MSU Commons. Archival space will be available for a minimum of seven years (in order to comply with expectations from federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health relating to public accessibility of datasets produced by public grant funding), with a goal of it being available for as long as the Data Hub remains in existence.
Additional storage space for the purposes of either storage/sharing or public archive can be purchased for a one-time cost of $100/TB. This fee is designed to be built into grant budgets and paid before the end of the grant period, and will ensure the availability of storage space for a minimum of seven years beyond the payment date for the reasons stated above, and a goal of it being available for as long as the Data Hub remains in existence.
